I AM CLO

Welcome to my World
Clo Jackson, a Manchester-born artist, draws inspiration from the industrial landscape of her Northern roots.
Her art boldly captures the contrasting beauty found in everyday objects against the urban backdrop of Manchester. Working primarily with oils, Clo creates vibrant, mixed-media pieces that showcase the fallen nature of her surroundings – flowers, earth, and leaves.
As an abstract artist, Clo is driven by the dynamics of movement and energy. Her colossal electric pieces are a fusion of bold colours and dramatic flair, inviting viewers into a world shaped by her unique perspective. Influenced by her love for music, graffiti, and fashion, Clo's artwork provides a lens through which to experience the world as she sees it.
Clo's creative expression extends beyond the canvas, as she explores ideas, thoughts, and emotions through the interplay of shape, colour, and texture. Drawing inspiration from the diverse landscapes of both Manchester and the vibrant Mediterranean mountains of Mallorca, her textured artworks echo the essence of these environments, creating a captivating visual experience that evolves with each piece.

Clo's Creative Process
Art for Clo is all about layers—both in technique and meaning. She often begins with spray lacquer, especially when working with charcoals and pencil, to prevent smudging and create a base. Clo embraces a variety of finishes, from gloss to satin, adding depth and texture to her work.
Her materials are as eclectic as her inspirations. From graffiti sprays like Liquitex and Windsor & Newton, to everyday objects like highlighters and makeup, Clo uses whatever is around her. In one piece, she even blended eye shadows into the acrylics to achieve the perfect tone. Texture plays a huge role too—dried leaves and petals often find their way into her work, crumbled into texture paste or mixed into her own concoctions of glue, paint, and natural elements. If she runs out of traditional supplies, she'll improvise with wall fillers, plaster, or even gravel. Metal paints, with their drips and shine, are another favorite, giving her pieces a unique, reflective quality.
Clo’s creative mood often dictates her process. Her strokes, patterns, and colors vary depending on how she feels, sometimes resulting in carvings of symbols that evoke a cave-like, ancient aesthetic. With a deep interest in archaeology and space, Clo’s mind often wanders to other times and worlds, thinking through her art in layers, breaking things down into their simplest forms to better translate her vision.

Painting is Clo’s way of evolving with the world and finding peace.
Music is an essential part of her process too. Clo paints to the rhythm, allowing the beats to influence her brushstrokes and emotions. Her learning journey has been self-driven—she’s studied her favorite artists, absorbed YouTube tutorials, and experimented on her own, becoming obsessed with mastering her craft.
She often paints late into the night, when everything is quiet, using art as her escape from overthinking. It’s her voice, her mind, and her soul, all expressed in color and texture. When Clo paints, she gets lost in the process, feeling truly herself. Art is where she can just be.
Q & A - Materials & Creative Process
Q1. What materials do you typically work with, and how do they influence your creative process? I work with acrylics, graffiti, petals, fallen nature—anything that reflects life, transformation, and beauty. These materials encourage me to be bold, alive, and resourceful. I love using what’s around me, rejecting wastefulness in a world where many struggle. My process is about making art from the things society discards, much like how we need to care for each other more. From acrylics to everyday items like highlighters and BIC pens, I find inspiration in anything that can add color or texture. Even fallen leaves and petals become part of my story, reminding me of love, loss, and renewal.
Q2. Are there any unconventional materials you enjoy incorporating into your work?Absolutely. I’ve used soil, ashes, and household items like plaster or even red wine. If it can add texture or tell a story, it’s part of my art.
Q3. How do you decide which materials best suit each project or artwork?
I close my eyes and let my inner self choose. I believe we don’t always need our eyes to see; sometimes, intuition leads the way.
Q4. Do you have a preferred medium for murals versus furniture or interior work?
For murals, I focus on the base layer and the surface texture, adjusting to each wall's uniqueness. I mainly use graffiti, acrylic, pencils, and charcoal, finishing with a gloss or spray to protect the piece.
Q5. How does sustainability or environmental impact factor into your choices?
Nature is my greatest influence. I use fallen leaves and petals to celebrate their beauty rather than seeing them as something dead. It’s a tribute to a friend I lost, someone who taught me how to see beauty even in what the world deems broken. My work is about making the forgotten beautiful again, just like nature’s endless cycle of renewal.
